Land Rover offsets 100% of manufacturing CO2 emissions

Land Rover is a perfect illustration of a car maker that really cares about the environment.  They’ve become the first auto maker to “voluntarily offset 100 percent of its CO2 emissions from manufacturing and assembly.”  Now, when you are driving around your newly purchased Chicago 2010 Land Rover, you can feel proud knowing it’s from a manufacturer that respects nature!

What Land Rover has done is donate the proceeds they’ve received from reducing emissions to programs that help the environment.  These programs educate people to find ways to reduce energy costs, in turn using the extra money for food, education, and other services.

Sounds like it is time to visit your Land Rover dealer in Chicago to see the newest selection of vehicles…….A model available for purchase is the 2010 Land Rover Range Rover HSE SUV.  This is a great SUV to own and it truly worth the price.  The HSE’s engine was designed by Jaguar Land Rover and has a 5.0 L, V8 engine as it’s base.  As a base, this rocks- a 5 liter, v8 engine would be on a supercharged model in a lot of lines, but the Range Rover Chicago comes standard with it!   In fact, this HSE model does come supercharged..The supercharged engine allows the SUV to go from 0 to 60 in just under 6 seconds- pretty good for a large SUV!

This Chicago 2010 Land Rover is made with exterior improvements.  Land Rover has headlights that are LED and a new grille with 2 bars.  You’ll also notice the front and rear bumpers have been redesigned.  On the HSE’s front, you’ll see wider fenders and smoother look.  On the back, LR has engineered a new bumper design mirror.

As we all know, the Range Rover Chicago can be used for off-road adventures too.  With this being a luxury SUV with a higher sticker price, I am not sure I would want to rough it in this vehicle?  But, if those back trails are still your passion, this LR is a great choice.  For the 2010 model,  Land Rover has updated the Terrain Response System.   If you are driving on soft sand, the system is better equipped for drive-away (i.e. makes it easier).  The wheels will also be prohibited from digging down into the sand due to “speed-dependent wheel-slip targets”.

I hope that this information has swayed your decision to visit a Land Rover dealer in Chicago as soon as possible!

The Land Rover LRX

It’s official, the Chicago new Land Rover, the LRX, will be available for purchase in 2011.  It was unveiled as a concept coupe SUV a few years ago,and LR enthusiasts are happy to find out it will actually become a reality!

Like the Chicago Land Rover LR4, it will have many of the same characteristics that make it a true Land Rover.  These include “the signature clam shell bonnet, the floating roof and the solid ‘wheel-at-each-corner’ stance.” It will also have the same quality, durability and cargo/passenger space that Land Rover drivers come to expect.  Another LR feature the LRX will keep is the 4-wheel drive.

Some changes will be found, compared to my uncle’s Chicago used Land Rover.  This model will be smaller, weigh less, and be more efficient.  It will also be a sportier and sleeker model.  The LRX is about 8 inches shorter than the LR2 and has smoother body contours.  This SUV will be made with a lower roof-line and tapered nose.  I really like the new design, it’s a little more classy looking versus the some of the more traditionally styled Chicago new Land Rover models.

Powertrain wise, the 2011 LRX is reported to come in several options.  The first being a 2.2 L turbo-diesel that provides 160 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The second option is predicted to be a3.2-liter petrol inline six that has a HP of 230 and 317 Nm of torque.  A possibility of a hybrid version is also being tossed around.  This is  likely since the auto is built in the UK and Europe is setting stricter emissions standards that come into play in 2012.

Some other features to be part of the Chicago new Land Rover’s interior include sunroof, a navigation system, windshield that is heated electrically, and bi-xenon headlamps. It is not clear if these will come standard or if they will be available for and extra charge.  Either way, Land Rover is promising this model to be a great addition, as the Chicago Land Rover LR4 was when it was put on the market.

More and more details will be released about this new SUV the closer it gets to arriving at dealerships.

Looks like we have a Land Rover hybrid to look forward to

After several years of  planning,  Land Rover will finally launch a hybrid model.  According to reports, the new Chicago Land Rover will be for sale in early 2011, with a debut model coming June 2010.  How fitting, since Land Rover  has it’s 40th birthday next summer!

Land Rover is developing a “parallel Hybrid system” that is similar to the system Toyota has in it’s Prius.  A battery pack will hold the charge (most likely a lithium ion battery commonly used in hybrids) and there is a plug so the SUV can charge while it’s in park.   It will be interesting to see how the hybrid compares to the Chicago 2010 Land Rover.
