Over the past 60 years, Land Rover has been developing and changing their great vehicles.  Let’s take a look at how new and used Range Rover Chicago models have changed over the years.

In 1947, the idea of a Land Rover vehicle was born.  It was just after the war and the technical director for Rover Vehicles, Maurice Wilkes, caught wind that people were interested in a military type 4 X 4.  So, in 1948 the very first Land Rover went on display at the Amsterdam Motor Show.  It was made of aluminum and the body paint was left over from a fighter plane factory.  It also had a lightweight chassis and four wheel drive.  In fact, a used Range Rover Chicago model from 2007 that I recently came across still had the 4 wheel drive.  I guess they got something right early on!

Ten years later in 1958, a new model came out.  It was easier to drive, but still a durable auto.  A new 2.25 L petrol engine was a part of the model.  This is the model that made Land Rover a worldwide brand.  Orders came in from all over the world for this Series II auto.  In fact, the orders were from 70 different countries.

Through the 1960’s and 1970’s the models sold at your Chicago used Land Rover dealer were building on the last.  In 1967, the transmission was updated, as well as new carburetors installed.  In 1970, Land Rover released a great model that had off road capability, awesome towing capacity, and hydraulic disc brakes on all wheels.

In 1981, the first 4 door SUV was released and was well received.  In fact, it was so well taken by customers, that in 1984, the UK discontinued the two-door model.   Then, in 1986, the front end grille was updated and fog lights became a part of the body.

In the 1990’s some Limited Edition Models came to your local dealership.  For example, The Great Divide Edition was sold in 1990 and 1991.  Only 400 were manufactured and they were painted Alpine White, with the interior a Sorrell light brown leather.

Today, the models sold at your Chicago used Land Rover dealer are very luxurious.  They have beautiful interiors, powerful engines, and plenty of passenger and cargo space.  Keep a Range Rover in mind if you’re looking for something new!

Holland and Holland and Overfinch are teaming up for this fully loaded Range Rover.  Who are these guys, you might ask?  Holland and Holland is a major gun and rifle maker in England and Overfinch are the guys who customize your used Range Rover Chicago.

This supped up Range Rover will be patterned after the 2010 Range Rover HSE.  A high-powered engine will make it’s way into the LE model.  It will be just over 500 HP and have a V8, naturally aspirating engine.  This will allow for one powerful, fun filled cruise around town!

The Chicago 2010 Land Rover will come with some heavy duty tires, and the option of four colors.  One option is a two-toned paint job and another is a “Tintern Green”.  The Overfinch and Holland and Holland Logos will also be found on the front bumper of the SUV!

So, where do the guns and booze come in, you are probably wondering right about now?!?  The Range Rover comes with a type of “cupboard” that has 3 drawers that have custom handcrafting.   In the drawers is where you’ll find “Holland & Holland crystal tumblers and flutes, shotguns, a cleaning kit for them as well as cartridges and the bag in which to carry them”.

Overfinch is going to provide a lucky owner of one of these vehicles a year’s supply of premium spirits!  The list includes:Pol Roger Champagne, Balvenie single malt whisky, Hendrick’s single batch gin, Ivan the Terrible luxury vodka and Willow Spring Water.  These are found in a center console that can sit 4 people.

Man, my used Range Rover Chicago didn’t come with guns and alcohol, but it’s still a great SUV!  It is not clear right now which, if any, Chicago Range Rover dealerships may be lucky enough to sell one of the LE’s, but they do have a great selection of other new and used Range Rovers.

There is no doubt among those who have driven a Land Rover that it is a great vehicle.  They are roomy, durable, and great for off-road adventure seekers. Chicago Land Rover LR4 is new and has much to offer!

One area this vehicle offers an upgrade in is the mechanics under the hood.  The engine is a V8 power, 5.0 liters that is similar to the force behind most Jaguars.  The engine can be warmed quicker by using a reverse-direction cooling system.  The new V8 engine also features coated oil-pump bits and a lighter viscosity synthetic lubricant.  These Chicago Land Rover LR4 attributes make for fewer emissions and better gas mileage- Not bad! We had some great times at our off-road events this summer, where Chicago Land Rover enthusiasts had the chance to experience what their vehicles were meant for, dominating rugged terrain in a manner more luxurious than any vehicle on regular roads. The off-road events took place at Halter Wildlife picnic grounds in Pleasant Prairie, WI. There, Chicago Range Rover owners and Chicago Land Rover LR4 owners had the opportunity to drive their Rovers through a course of steep inclines, rocky terrain, and bogs of mud. All participants enjoyed a great picnic between the two adventure-laden courses and had a great time doing it.
