You have got to be kidding me. It has been around ten years now and I just had the Spice Girls erased from my brain and now I have to bring it all up again. It has never been a secret that putting hot women in front of hot cars is a sure way to sell them, the cars not the women. Land Rover has announced the most daring evolution of that marketing scheme ever devised. The new plan is to let the hot women design the car.

When I drive Chicago new LR2 owners look on in jealousy because when I drive Chicago Land Rover lr4 is more my style. I may not have a beautiful woman standing in front of my car when I’m not there but then again I’m not trying to sell it. Hot ladies have always had their place in the auto industry, but the latest move doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Remember the Spice Girls? Of course you do. Do you remember that Meatloaf was the bus driver in their ridiculous movie? Of course I do.

Anyway, Victoria Beckham, once known as Posh Spice, whatever that means, is now being brought on board by Land Rover to design a new vehicle. I still can’t wrap my brain around this one. Her soccer playing hubby can no longer kick the ball, and yes I said soccer. Let the rest of the world call it football. Here in America we have a real sport already holding that name until Soccer becomes a man and decides to challenge it. Good luck!

Maybe Land Rover is on to something. Anyone I have ever spoken with about an LR always says the same thing. The interior is tiny and is one of the most uncomfortable motor vehicles on the world market. I suddenly get it! With Posh Spice on board and all of her experience traveling around in a double decked tour bus driven by a pop legend and a blonde pig tailed adult with a sucker and fluffy swing, she’s totally used to room and luxury. Genius Land Rover! Double decked Land Rover here I come!

1970 was a landmark year for the Land Rover. This marks the year that the first Range Rover rolled out of a UK factory. Since then, the manufacturing of the Range Rover is going strong. Let’s find out some information on what’s been up with the RR since its debut in 1970.

The 1st RR, like some early versions of the Chicago Land Rover LR4, was pretty basic.  It was designed with vinyl seats and a plastic dashboard!  The idea was to be able to clean the inside by spraying it with a hose!   Can you imagine that, thinking about the current RR’s that are so luxurious?!?

The production of the Range Rover can be divided up into three generations.  Generation one lasted from 1970-1995.  The second went from 1994 to 2002, and the current generation (third) has been in production since 2002.  Clearly, these generations mark notable changes in the exterior and interior design, powertrain, and available safety features!

One thing can be said about the shape of the RR is that it’s retained it’s box-like shape that makes you recognize it as a RR when you see it on the street.  This is similar to the design of Land Rover’s including the Chicago new LR2.  This design is one of the company’s flagship appeals!

Many other changes have taken place since 1970.  When the 2nd generation emerged, vehicles from that era received updated V8 engines versus those used in generation one RR’s.  Some other updates to this generation include a new, stronger chassis, better air suspension, and an anti-lock braking system for the models with 2 wheel traction control.

Moving on to our current third generation models, like the Chicago Land Rover LR4, the newest Range Rovers are some of the most durable, yet luxurious models on the market.  The 2010 LR received many updates including new grilles, bumpers, LED head and tail lights, and two new engines!  Inside the cabin, the layout of some of the displays has been updated to make it more user friendly for driver and passenger alike!

Happy 40th birthday, Range Rover.  There’s a reason these SUV’s have been around 40 years and counting.  Head to your local dealer today and take one for a spin.  I think you’ll be hooked!

I get excited when I hear about changes or improvements an automaker is planning.  Whether it’s a new engine, exterior, stereo system, etc, it shows brand loyalists that they are eager to try new things and appeal to all different demographics.  This is precisely what Land Rover is trying to do with the new Range Rover, Chicago drivers!

The two-wheel drive will help make the new Range Rover Chicago lighter, which will reduce resources and materials used to manufacture the auto.   But, for those Range Rover owners who crave the four-wheel drive option for off road adventures, the 2011 model will still have that.  When I mentioned a two-wheel drive option to a friend who off roads with his Land Rover frequently, he looked like he was going to faint.  Lucky for him, he’s still going to be able to enjoy that!

Reports also claim that the 2WD model will be patterned after the LRX concept.  This vehicle debuted a few years ago at the Detroit Auto Show and it certainly has a more modern exterior design versus other Chicago Range Rovers!   The new option may get a “floating roof”, clamshell hood with it’s corners angled, and round LED headlights.  When I look at it, it’s less “boxy” looking than most standard Land Rovers seen on the roads today!

I give a lot of credit to Land Rover for working diligently to make their autos more environmentally friendly. The new compact SUV will be lighter, give off less CO2 and use less resources to engineer.  The 2WD drive may just be the ticket to getting a new LR/RR fan base!
