The Land Rover Defender could once be found on and off North American roads. Although they are still being made and driven throughout the world, they were taken off U.S. roads in 1997 due to lack of airbags. Thirteen years later, Land Rover has decided to revamp this model. If it does make it back to the US Market, it won’t be seen in your Chicago Range Rover dealership until 2012 or 2013. The Defender (again, if sold in the US) would sport a 5.0 L v8 engine, while models in other parts of the world will get a 2.7L diesel engine.
If you came across a Defender today, what would it look like, and what are some of it’s features? It definitely has the boxy style that makes a Chicago used Land Rover what it is. In fact, this vehicle has been used in the military of some countries overseas. It had a lot of success in the Gulf War, as it could be better used in urban areas and for air-lifting, versus the Humvee.
Back in the 1990’s several models were sold- the Defender 90 and Defender 110. Both were powered by V8 engines and available in 2 or 4 door models. These models continue to be sold in the UK today. In fact, in the movie The Queen, Queen Elizabeth drives around a Defender 110 on her family’s estate. Pretty cool if you ask me!!
The Defender update is in the works to possibly be sold again in the US, but not for a couple more years. In the meantime, check out the Chicago 2010 Range Rover at your local dealer.
