After several years of  planning,  Land Rover will finally launch a hybrid model.  According to reports, the new Chicago Land Rover will be for sale in early 2011, with a debut model coming June 2010.  How fitting, since Land Rover  has it’s 40th birthday next summer!

Land Rover is developing a “parallel Hybrid system” that is similar to the system Toyota has in it’s Prius.  A battery pack will hold the charge (most likely a lithium ion battery commonly used in hybrids) and there is a plug so the SUV can charge while it’s in park.   It will be interesting to see how the hybrid compares to the Chicago 2010 Land Rover.

Engine and emissions details are stating that the new LR will have V6, 3.0 Liter diesel engine.  The electric motor will provide 25 kw and allow the driver to go “electric only” up to 20 miles.  The Land Rover will give off carbon at the rate of 100 grams/kilometer.

Interior and exterior styling of the Chicago Land Rover may be very similar to the LRX concept.   This means the hybrid may be available in a 3 or 5 door option and will have a sporty look.  Inside the cabin may also feature elegant and comfortable leather seating.  The gauge lighting has a blue tint that looks very modern.

A few loyal Land Rover customers I have talked to are excited to get behind the wheel of this hybrid when it arrives at their Chicago used Land Rover dealer.  Until then, come to Patrick Land Rover for some great deals on the Chicago 2010 Land Rover and other fine pre-owned vehicles!
